the sarcophagus ring's story
the foundation of this ring was sculpted to resemble a set of ancient egyptian cuffs that date back to the 10th-11th century. the original cuffs can be found in the louvre museum in paris, france [see last image].
the writing inscribed on the ring has come from an etruscan (italy's first civilization) poem that was found on an ancient sarcophagus. the inscription has been translated and can be read in both directions. in one direction it states that people should not mourn the deaths of loved ones but rather celebrate their lives under the moon with dancing, spiced wine, and singing. in the opposite direction the woman of whom has passed instructs her son to fight his battles but to remember to stop to woo the one he loves. the original sarcophagus poem can be found in the national archeological museum of florence, italy.
